Case Description
In the occupied Mariupol of the Donetsk region, no later than April 2022 (the exact date is unknown), criminal cases were initiated against eight servicemen of the 36th separate brigade of the Marine Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Denis Sivtsov, Yuriy Galatsky, Leonid Bulava, Igor Zharenko, Semyon Belyak, Yaroslav Bozhkov, Pavel Bey, and Vitaliy Kirillenko on charges of cruel treatment of the civilian population, use of prohibited means and methods in an armed conflict, and destruction of other people's property by a generally dangerous method. According to the Russian investigation, from March to April 2022, while stationed in Mariupol, the Ukrainians, following orders from their superiors, fired multiple mortar shots at gas distribution and pumping stations. As a result of the shelling, the objects were damaged and their owners suffered material damage. On November 11, 2024, the court found the defendants guilty and sentenced Denis Sivtsov to 17 years in prison, Yuriy Galatskyy and Vitaliy Kirillenko to 16 years, Leonid Bulava, Semyon Belyak, Yaroslav Bozhkov, and Igor Zharenkov to 15 years and 6 months, and Pavel Bey to 15 years and 3 months." They will serve their sentences in a strict regime penal colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
