Case Description
In May 2023 (the exact date is unknown), a criminal case was opened in the village of Pangody, Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, for 'fakes' about the Russian army against local resident Igor Yakunichev, 34. Russian army crimes in Bucha were the subject of criminal prosecution due to publications on VKontakte. In June 2023, a search was conducted at his home. Yakunichev was beaten during his detention, but released after questioning under a ban on certain actions. At the end of December 2023, another criminal case was opened against Yakunichev - for justifying terrorism. The reason for the criminal prosecution was a video publication about the "Freedom of Russia" legion. On March 31, 2024, it became known that another case was opened against Yakunichev - for repeated "discrediting" of the RF army. The reason for the criminal prosecution was video testimonies from eyewitnesses of the shooting of Vasily Avdeev, a resident of the Kyiv village of Beresovka, by Russian soldiers, published on VKontakte." Earlier, in June 2023, Yakunichev was fined in a case of an administrative offense under the article on discrediting the army due to the fact that he filmed a video about a memorial with a T-54 tank, which is located in the village. Yakunichev believed that placing the letter "Z" on the memorial falls under the article on violating the law on the protection of cultural heritage sites. On April 1, 2024, a repeat search was conducted at Yakunichev's house, after which the man was forcibly hospitalized in a psychiatric hospital. The court judge Tatiana Antonova of the Nadym City Court of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug granted the investigation's petition to place him in a medical facility for the purpose of conducting an examination in February 2024. On May 3, 2024, the Salekhard City Court sent Yakunichev to a pre-trial detention center. On September 5, 2025, the Central Military District Court found Igor Yakunchikov guilty and sentenced him to 12 years in prison to be served in a general regime correctional colony.
