Case Description
In the Kursk region, no later than October 2024, during hostilities, a 34-year-old Ukrainian citizen, a soldier of the 17th separate tank brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Igor Snizhko, was taken prisoner by Russian military personnel. A criminal case was opened against him for committing a terrorist act by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, resulting in significant damage. According to the Russian investigation, in October 2024, Snizhko, together with his fellow servicemen, armed with an AK-74 assault rifle and grenades, illegally entered Russian territory. In the Korenevsky district of the Kursk region, he equipped observation and fire positions in the forest belt, from which he "opened fire on Russian military personnel and civilians, as well as participated in the blockade of Olgovka village." On June 24, 2025, the 2nd Western Military District Court found Igor Snizhko guilty and sentenced him to 17 years in prison, with the first 4 years to be served in a prison and the remainder in a strict regime penal colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
