Case Description
On November 3, 2022, Russian security forces captured two Ukrainian citizens, former fighters of the Azov regiment and a participant in the Right Sector, 26-year-old Igor Golovan and 25-year-old Igor Petrov, in Berdyansk, the occupied Zaporizhzhia region. They were accused of preparing a sabotage on one of the city's electrical substations under the curatorship of the GUR of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. Both men were placed in custody. On October 9, 2023, the Southern Military District Court found the defendants guilty and sentenced Igor Petrov to 10 years and Igor Golovan to 11 years in prison. The Ukrainians must serve the first 3 years in prison, the remaining term in a strict regime colony. The court also fined each defendant 300 thousand. rubles. On October 21, 2024, the Appellate Military Court reduced the sentences of both by 1 month.
