Case Description
On December 6, 2022, a search was conducted in Krasnoyarsk at the home of local resident Igor Orlovsky. Two criminal cases were opened against him at once: for calls for extremist activity and public justification of terrorism and fakes about the Russian army and rehabilitation of Nazism. The cases were handled as separate proceedings. According to the investigation, in March, Orlovsky published a message on social networks that the RF Armed Forces struck the drama theater in Mariupol. In April, the investigation believes, he left two comments: in one, he stated that Russian soldiers were killing civilians and destroying cities; in the other, he referred to the words of the former Ukrainian ombudsman that Russian soldiers had raped a boy and a girl in Bucha. Rehabilitation of Nazism was charged to Orlovsky due to a comment comparing Hitler's and Stalin's policies before World War II. 'Stalin was the same aggressor as Hitler,' the comment concludes. This case was initiated first, later it was merged into a single case with the case of "military fakes. During the investigation, Orlovsky was under a written undertaking not to leave. On March 24, 2023, the 1st Eastern Military District Court sentenced Igor Orlovsky to three years in a general regime colony on charges of calling for extremist activity and publicly justifying terrorism. The man was taken into custody in the courtroom. 17 July 2023, the Appellate Military Court upheld this sentence. On November 13, 2023, the Krasnoyarsk Regional Court found Igor Orlovsky guilty and sentenced him to two years under the article on the rehabilitation of Nazism and five and a half years under the article on military "fakes. In combination with the previous sentence, the term amounted to seven and a half years. On March 14, 2024, the Fifth Appellate Court of General Jurisdiction upheld the verdict. The court also banned Orlovsky from posting publications on the internet for 2 years. The man was taken into custody in the courtroom. On July 17, 2023, the Appellate Military Court left the verdict in force.
