Case Description
On February 9, 2019, near the village of Shirokino in the occupied Donetsk region, Igor Mironchuk, a serviceman of the 128th Separate Mountain Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, was taken prisoner by Russian military personnel. Later, a criminal case was opened against him for espionage (under the Criminal Code article of the "DPR"). The details of the charges are unknown. The Supreme Court of the Donetsk People's Republic found Igor Mironchuk guilty and sentenced him to 12 years in a strict regime colony. The date of the verdict is unknown. No information about the appeal is available. In August 2025, Mironchuk was released during the next exchange of prisoners of war between Russia and Ukraine.
