Case Description
In the Kursk region on October 19, 2024, during hostilities, Igor Boronilo, a 44-year-old citizen of Ukraine and commander of a unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, was taken prisoner by Russian servicemen. A criminal case was opened against him for committing a terrorist act by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, resulting in significant damage. According to the Russian investigation, on the night of October 16, 2024, Boronilo, along with three other servicemen, illegally crossed the border with Russia in the Kursk region. They headed towards the village of Novy Put in the Glushkovsky district to block it. While on an observation and fire position, Boronilo, along with his comrades, intimidated the civilian population, prohibited evacuation, observed Russian military personnel and transmitted information about them, and also participated in the disorganization of the activities of the authorities." July 23, 2025, the 2nd Western Military District Court found Igor Boronilo guilty and sentenced him to 16 years in prison, the first 4 years he must serve in prison, and the remaining part of the sentence in a strict regime correctional colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
