Case Description
In July 2019, a criminal case was opened in Crimea against Ukrainian citizen and journalist Gulsuym Khalilova from the Ukrainian TV channel ATR. She was accused of participating in an illegal armed group on the territory of a foreign state.
According to the Russian investigation, in 2016 Khalilova joined the battalion named after Noman Celebijihan in the Kherson region of Ukraine and provided informational support to the unit. The journalist herself stated that she worked as a field correspondent and covered the "Civil Blockade of Crimea" campaign.
On July 12, 2019, the Kyiv District Court of Simferopol chose pre-trial detention in the form of two months of imprisonment as a measure of restraint against the defendant in absentia. She was also placed on the wanted list.
On February 19, 2025, the Henichesk District Court of the Kherson region found Gulsuym Khalilova guilty in absentia; the length of her sentence remains unknown.
The verdict was not appealed and has entered into legal force.
