Case Description

At the end of February 2024, in the occupied Melitopol of the Zaporizhzhia region, three local residents, Ukrainian citizens - spouses Olga and Gennady Kapralovs and Dilaver Kurshutov - were detained." "During searches at their homes, they allegedly seized methadone and the NATO-classified BZ combat toxic substance (quinuclidinyl benzilate), which is used to create chemical weapons of mass destruction and was developed in the United States. The Ukrainians were accused of preparing a terrorist attack, by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, of developing, manufacturing, stockpiling, acquiring weapons of mass destruction, and illegal trafficking in narcotic drugs. According to the version of Russian security forces, the residents of Melitopol, under the control of Ukrainian special services, were preparing a terrorist attack using an analogue of the combat chemical agent BZ against Russian military personnel and the governor of the Zaporizhzhia region, Yevgeny Balitsky. It is claimed that he was promised €2,000 for poisoning the military, and €10,000 for a successful assassination attempt on the head of the region. All three defendants in the case were placed in a pre-trial detention center.
