Case Description
In March 2022, in Moscow, the Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia opened a criminal case against Ukrainian TV presenter Fakhruddin Sharafmal. He was accused of inciting hatred or enmity, as well as humiliating the dignity of an individual or group of persons on the basis of nationality and rehabilitating Nazism. According to the Russian security forces, on March 15, 2022, Sharafmal, using his official position, publicly called on Ukrainians in a live broadcast on the Ukrainian television channel "24 Channel" to commit mass killings of citizens of the Russian Federation, including children. At the same time, according to the investigation, he justified his calls with the ideology of Nazi criminals, including Adolf Eichmann, an image of whom he allegedly demonstrated on air. The TV presenter was put on international wanted list." 5. On July 26, 2024, the Moscow City Court found Fakhruddin Sharafmal guilty and sentenced him in absentia to 7 years of imprisonment in a general regime colony.
