Case Description
Law enforcement officers detained Yevgeny Nikiforov, a resident of the Volgograd region, in the Rostov region. According to the prosecution's version, he intended to participate in military actions on the territory of Ukraine against the Armed Forces of Russia. According to the investigation, Yevgeny arrived in the Rostov region with the intention of crossing the state border and joining the Armed Forces of Ukraine to participate in hostilities against the Russian Federation. During the detention, an application form and a statement signed by him for concluding a contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine, a 'Tascan Gorka' suit, mobile phones used to communicate with subscribers on the territory of Ukraine were found and seized from him. According to a friend of Evgeny, he 'considered the war to be an aggression of our state, whose main culprit is hiding in a bunker' and wanted to join the 'Freedom of Russia' Legion. On April 4, 2023, a closed hearing took place at the Rostov Regional Court, and Yevgeniy was sentenced to 6.5 years in a strict regime colony on charges of intending to commit treason against the homeland.
