Case Description

On the evening of September 11, 2023, in Moscow, near his home, the activist of the 'Nemtsov Bridge' Yevgeny Mischenko was detained. After his detention, a search was conducted at his house and dacha, and he was taken for questioning at the Investigative Committee. Prior to the election of a preventive measure, the activist was placed in a temporary detention facility. Two days later, on September 13, the Babushkinsky District Court of Moscow was supposed to choose a measure of restraint for Yevgenia, but during the court session the activist reported being beaten during the detention - security forces broke three of his ribs. An ambulance was called to the court, which took the activist to the medical unit, where doctors recorded rib fractures. The court denied the investigator's motion to arrest Mischenko without his participation. In the morning of September 14, Evgeniya Mischenko was discharged from the hospital, and a few hours later he was again escorted to court, which sent him under arrest. A criminal case was opened against a volunteer for participating in a terrorist community. The reason for the criminal prosecution was Mishchenko's alleged agreement to participate in the activities of the 'Freedom of Russia' Legion. According to the indictment, from June 1 to 4, 2023, on Bolshoy Moskvoretsky Bridge (Nemtsov Bridge) in Moscow, a subject of operational infiltration under the pseudonym Karasev Aleksey Alekseyevich established "trust relationships" with Yevgeny Mischenko. Under his influence, Mishchenko "became acquainted with some propaganda materials in the Telegram channel of the Legion, after which he began to share a hostile-negative attitude towards the authorities of the Russian Federation and the ideology of the Legion "Freedom of Russia. Next, according to the security forces, Mischenko joined the Legion "Freedom of Russia" via the Proton mail service, using ProtonVPN. According to investigators, Mishchenko allegedly received from Legion curators the task of gathering information about enterprises manufacturing missiles and other military products, weapons storage locations, and even planned to complete remote training on UAV control to subsequently carry out strikes on military facilities. On October 9, 2024, the 2nd Western Military District Court found Evgeny Mischenko guilty and sentenced him to 12 years in prison. The first three years of Mishchenko's sentence will be served in prison, the remaining years in a strict regime colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
