On September 10, 2024, in the Kursk region, during hostilities, Ukrainian citizens, servicemen of the 44th separate mechanized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, 42-year-old Alexander Vedernikov, 41-year-old Alexey Pinchuk, and 40-year-old Yevgeny Hatenko, were taken prisoner by Russian servicemen. Criminal charges were brought against them for committing a terrorist act by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, resulting in significant damage. According to the Russian investigation, on September 8, 2024, military personnel armed with combat weapons, as part of Ukrainian Armed Forces units, illegally invaded the territory of the Russian Federation. While in the villages of Lyubimovka and Snagost in the Sudzhansky district of the Kursk region, Vedernikov, Pinchuk, and Hatenko "under the threat of using weapons, occupied private houses, prevented the evacuation of civilians, and repeatedly opened fire on Russian military personnel and local residents. On March 19, 2025, the 2nd Western Military District Court found the defendants guilty and sentenced Alexei Pinchuk and Evgeny Hatenko to 16 years in prison and Alexandra Vedernikova to 17 years, with the first 4 years to be served in prison and the remaining part in a strict regime penal colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
