Case Description
In Mariupol, the occupied part of the Donetsk region, no later than April 2022, 24-year-old Ukrainian citizen, soldier of the Azov regiment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Yevgeny Kapustyan, fell into captivity to Russian soldiers. Against him, a criminal case was initiated for participating in the activities of a terrorist community and undergoing training for the purpose of carrying out terrorist activities. The reason for the criminal prosecution was service in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine of the nationalist "Azov" battalion, recognized as a terrorist organization in Russia. On September 8, 2025, the Southern Military District Court found Yevgeny Kapustyan guilty and sentenced him to imprisonment in a strict regime colony, the size of the punishment is unknown. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
