Case Description
On September 8, 2023, 34-year-old local resident Elena Popova was detained in Rostov-on-Don. At four in the morning, security forces were waiting for the woman near her house. After searches in her apartment and her parents' apartment, Popova was taken to Office No. 4 of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for Rostov-on-Don, and then to the Leninsky District Court of the city, where Judge Lada Yevangelyevskaya sentenced her to 10 days of administrative arrest under the article on 'hooliganism'. After this, Popov was accused of "hooliganism" two more times - on September 18, Judge Galina Faustova of the Leninsky District Court of Rostov-on-Don sentenced the Rostov woman to 10 days of arrest, and then, on September 28, Judge Elmira Fadeeva of the Kirovsky District Court of Rostov-on-Don sentenced Popova to 15 days of administrative arrest. In total, the woman spent 35 days in the detention center. Her father came to pick up his daughter and three times observed how the police took her away. Judging by the documents, Popova "loudly swore" and "wrenched her hands" not even at the exit from the detention center, but in places where she could not get to even if she wanted to, given the five minutes she had between arrests. During the consideration of the protocols on administrative offenses, Popov was brought to court under escort and in handcuffs, accompanied by seven accompanying security forces.
