Case Description
In Mariupol, the occupied part of the Donetsk region, no later than May 2022, Ukrainian citizens fell into captivity with Russian military personnel, the commander of the 2nd gun of the 1st fire platoon of the 2nd artillery battery of the 1st artillery division of the 55th separate artillery brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Dmitry Strizhevsky and the subordinate to him servicemen of the gun crew Dmitry Leontiev, Alexander Dolinyak, Nikita Korobitsyn, Andrey Zdorenko and Vitaly Bochkovy. They were accused of cruel treatment of the civilian population and the use of prohibited methods in armed conflict, the murder of two or more persons and attempted murder committed by a dangerous method by an organized group motivated by political and ideological hatred, as well as intentional damage to another's property. According to the investigation, in March 2022, the military personnel were on a firing position on the territory of the Mariupol Azovstal plant. Following orders from their command, they repeatedly shelled civilian infrastructure in the city using artillery guns. As a result of the shelling of a school building in the village of Stary Krym, two civilians were killed, and two more, including a child, were injured. In total, about 200 people were on the territory of the institution at that time. The material damage from the actions of the artillerymen was estimated at over 479 million. rubles. On December 11, 2025, the Supreme Court of the Donetsk People's Republic found the defendants guilty and sentenced Dmitry Strizhevsky and Dmitry Leontyev to 23 years and 9 months of imprisonment each, Nikita Korobitsyn and Vitaly Bochkov were sentenced to 23 years and 4 months of imprisonment each, and Alexander Dolyanyuk to 23 years and 2 months. They will serve their sentences in a strict regime colony. The case of Andrey Zdorenko was terminated due to death. The cause and exact date of death are unknown.
