Case Description
Russian security forces abducted a 39-year-old local resident, Ukrainian citizen Dmitry Shaynoga, from his home in the occupied city of Tokmak, Zaporizhzhia region, on October 11, 2024. He was transferred to Melitopol, where a criminal case for espionage was opened against the Ukrainian. According to the version of Russian law enforcement agencies, from August to October 2022, Shaynog, being on the territory of the Zaporozhye region, collected and transmitted information about geolocations with reference to geographic coordinates, highlighting areas of terrain that display the locations of personnel, weapons and military equipment of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, via messenger to an employee of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. NOT LATER THAN OCTOBER 24, 2024, the Zaporizhzhia Regional Court found Dmitry Shaynoga guilty and sentenced him to 12 years of imprisonment to be served in a strict regime correctional colony. It is unknown whether the verdict will be appealed.
