In August 2022, it became known that criminal cases were opened against Alexei Navalny's associates for spreading knowingly false information about the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and publicly justifying terrorism. The reason for the criminal prosecution was statements made on the air of "Popular Politics. Leading channel Dmitry Nizovtsev was accused of "fakes" about the Russian army on the grounds of political hatred and using his official position due to a story about the murder of civilians in Ukraine by Russian soldiers in Bucha. In December 2023, Nizovtseva was put on the wanted list. In January 2024, the Basmanny District Court of Moscow placed Dmitry Nizovtsev under house arrest in absentia. The court ruled to count the term of arrest from the moment of extradition to the territory of the Russian Federation, or from the moment of his detention on the territory of the Russian Federation."
