Case Description
On November 9, 2024, in the Kursk region, 35-year-old Ukrainian citizen and serviceman of military unit A-3283 (17th separate tank brigade), senior soldier and grenadier Dmitry Muntyan, was taken prisoner by Russian military forces. A criminal case was opened against him for committing a terrorist act by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, resulting in serious consequences. According to the Russian investigation, on November 7, 2024, Muntian, armed with an AK-74 assault rifle, as part of a unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, illegally crossed the state border of the Russian Federation. Taking up a firing position near the village of Olgovka in the Korenevsky district of the Kursk region, the serviceman "hindered the evacuation of the civilian population from the combat zone and also used weapons against representatives of Russian armed formations and civilians." 2 June 2025, the 2nd Western Military Circuit Court found Dmitry Muntean guilty and sentenced him to 16 years of imprisonment, the first 5 years to be served in prison, the rest - in a strict regime penal colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
