Case Description
On January 5, 2025, in the Kursk region, during hostilities, a 43-year-old citizen of Ukraine, a soldier of the 115th Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, a shooter Dmitry Misyakov, was taken prisoner by Russian servicemen. A criminal case was opened against him for committing a terrorist act by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, resulting in significant damage. According to the Russian investigation, on the morning of January 5, 2025, Mysyakov, armed with an assault rifle, ammunition, and four hand grenades, as part of a unit in an armored vehicle, illegally invaded the Kursk region and proceeded to the settlement of Berdino in the Bolshesoldatsky district. There he occupied an abandoned building from where he "conducted surveillance and adjusted fire on civilian objects and locations of Russian troops." On August 7, 2025, the 2nd Western District Military Court found Dmitry Misyakov guilty and sentenced him to 14 years in prison, with the first 3 years to be served in prison and the remainder in a strict regime correctional colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
