Case Description
In Bratsk, Irkutsk Oblast, on January 9, 2023. 2. unknown persons set fire to the military enlistment office. Around 2 a.m., a security guard noticed smoke coming from the building and called the fire department. Someone threw a bottle with an incendiary mixture through the window of the first-floor room. Several fire crews arrived at the scene, and the fire was extinguished before it engulfed the entire building. Evening of the same day, 21-year-old sound engineer of the TRK "Bratsk" Dmitry Mikheev was detained on suspicion of arson. At first, the young man was charged under the article on destruction of property, but on January 25, the charge was reclassified as committing a "terrorist act. Michaelova was placed in a pre-trial detention center. Later, the charges against Mikheev were toughened — an article on treason and assistance to terrorist activities was added. January 29, 2025, the 2nd Eastern Military District Court found Dmitry Mikheyev guilty and sentenced him to 18 years in prison, with the first 5 years to be served in prison, and the remaining term in a strict regime correctional colony, with a 1.5-year restriction of freedom. July 22, 2025, the Appellate Military Court reduced the sentence by 3 months.
