Case Description
During the occupation of Mariupol in June 2022, reserve Ukrainian military dog handler Dmitry Lisovets went missing." Since the beginning of the invasion, he tried to leave the destroyed city with his aunt. 3 April he was stopped at a checkpoint by FSB officers, after which he was detained. First he was sentenced to administrative arrest, and then he was sent to a pre-trial detention center in Taganrog, where he was held without charges and tortured until June 15, 2022. On June 16, 2022, a criminal case was initiated against Lisovets under the article on participation in an illegal armed formation of the combat unit of the "Right Sector" - the "Ukrainian Volunteer Army. Later, charges were added for participation in an extremist organization and undergoing training to carry out terrorist activities. According to the FSB, Lisovets participated in combat operations against 'DPR' units in the Donetsk region in 2016-2017. On December 7, 2023, the Southern Military Court found Dmitry Lisovets guilty and sentenced him to 16 years in prison, of which he must spend 3 years in prison, and the rest of the term in a strict regime colony. On July 9, 2024, the Appellate Military Court left the sentence unchanged.
