Case Description
On August 18, 2023, 39-year-old local resident Dmitry Kizhminev was detained in Sarov, Nizhny Novgorod region. He was accused of treason, forgery of documents, and attempting to illegally leave Russia despite restrictions related to access to state secrets. The details of the charges are unknown. On August 19, 2023, the Nizhny Novgorod District Court sent the defendant in the case under arrest. Later he was transferred to Moscow, where the Lefortovo District Court extended his measure of restraint in December 2023, as well as in February and May 2024. On January 16, 2025, the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Court found Dmitry Kizhmenyov guilty and sentenced him to 13 years in a strict regime colony with a fine of 300 thousand. rubles and a restriction of freedom for 1.5 years after release. On April 17, 2025, the Fourth Appellate Court of General Jurisdiction left the verdict unchanged.
