Case Description
In Belarus in June 2022, employees of the State Border Committee detained Dmitry Goldychev, a 49-year-old resident of St. Petersburg. It is alleged that the man attempted to illegally cross the border with Ukraine. He was deported to Russia. The FSB of Russia for the Smolensk Region initiated a criminal case against the Petersburg resident for attempting to participate in an illegal armed formation, as well as participating in an armed conflict or military actions for purposes contradicting the interests of the Russian Federation, and attempting to commit treason. The court placed him in custody. According to the version of the security forces, in February 2022, Goldychev, being a "follower of neo-Nazi views," decided to travel to Ukraine to participate in hostilities against Russian military personnel. To do this, he contacted a "representative of a terrorist organization" via a messenger, informed them of his intention, and filled out the proposed questionnaire, in which, in addition to biographical data, he indicated information about his professional military skills, including the ability to shoot an AK-47." After this, the Petersburg resident allegedly purchased the necessary equipment, gear, medicines, and equipment. In May 2022, he bought a train ticket to the Republic of Belarus, from where he planned to infiltrate Ukrainian territory. On May 29, 2024, the Smolensk Regional Court found Dmitry Goldychev guilty and sentenced him to 13 years of imprisonment in a strict regime colony, the first 4 years of which he must serve in prison, and a fine of 200 thousand rubles. On December 5, 2024, the First Appellate Court of General Jurisdiction left the verdict unchanged.
