Case Description
On May 17, 2022, in Mariupol, in the occupied Donetsk region, 28-year-old Ukrainian citizen and soldier of the Azov regiment of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Dmitry Danilchuk was captured by Russian soldiers. Later, a criminal case was opened against Danilchuk for "participation in a terrorist community" and "training for the purpose of carrying out terrorist activities." The reason for the criminal prosecution was military service in the "Azov" regiment. On August 20, 2024, the Southern District Military Court found Dmitry Danilchuk guilty, the size of the punishment is unknown. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force. On July 4, 2025, Dmitry Danilchuk was released during the next exchange of prisoners of war between Russia and Ukraine.
