Case Description
On September 14, 2024, in the Kursk region, during combat operations, a 33-year-old Ukrainian citizen, soldier of the 253rd Territorial Defense Battalion of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Dmitry Bostan, was taken prisoner by Russian military personnel. A criminal case was opened against him for committing a terrorist act by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, resulting in significant damage. According to the Russian investigation, on September 10, 2024, Bostan, with the aim of committing a terrorist act, as part of the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, illegally invaded the territory of the Russian Federation. Being in the Sudzhansky district of the Kursk region, 'in order to destabilize the activities of government bodies,' he prevented the evacuation of the civilian population from the village of Borki, as well as used weapons to intimidate the population. 2 April 2025, the 2nd Western Military District Court found Dmitry Bostan guilty and sentenced him to 16 years in prison, with the first 5 years to be served in a prison, and the remainder in a strict regime penal colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
