Case Description
40-year-old Artem Sanzharaev, a resident of Krasnoyarsk, was detained in Krasnoyarsk on July 20, 2023. He was accused of "confidential cooperation" with a foreign state to the detriment of the Russian Federation, attempted sabotage, calls for terrorism, and participation in the activities of a terrorist organization. According to the investigation, Sanzharaev, through Telegram, joined the "Freedom of Russia" legion, being an ideological opponent" of the authorities in Russia and "dissatisfied with the current political regime. At the direction of one of the legion's members, he allegedly posted leaflets in public places in Krasnoyarsk calling for people to join the unit, and was also tasked with setting fire to two relay cabinets "in order to undermine the economic security and defense capability" of Russia. Sanzharaev bought the components for a Molotov cocktail and began assembling it on the railway, but he was detained by FSB officers. For the duration of the investigation, the court sent Sanzharaev into custody. December 20, 2024, the 2nd Eastern Military District Court found Artemy Sanzharaev guilty and sentenced him to 14 years in prison, 3 of which in a prison, and the remaining term in a strict regime colony.
