Case Description
In Oryol in early August 2022, 41-year-old administrator of the Telegram channel 'Orlets' Artem Prokhorov and 65-year-old author of the video blog 'Resume' Vladimir Panfilov were detained while receiving money from businessman Vladimir Tilman. They were accused of extorting money from a businessman. The investigation claimed that the journalists threatened Tillman with the publication of compromising material, but he himself denied pressure from the Orlets employees. Panfilov, in turn, explained that he received money from the businessman for preparing sponsored content. After the detention of both men were sent to the pre-trial detention center, but after a few weeks the court changed the preventive measures for Panfilov and Prokhorov to house arrest. On October 24, 2023, the Sovetsky District Court of Oryol found Artem Prokhorov and Vladimir Panfilov guilty and sentenced the men to two and a half years of probation with a three-year probationary period. Prosecutor's office appealed the verdict, but then withdrew the appeal. On January 23, 2024, the Orlov Regional Court terminated the consideration of the case in the appeal, the verdict came into force. n June 2025, the Sovetsky District Court of Oryol granted the journalists' petition to revoke their suspended sentence before the end of the probationary period and cleared their criminal records.
