On June 22, 2023, in Melitopol, in the occupied Zaporizhzhia region, 39-year-old local resident Artem Malyshev was abducted. Subsequently, a criminal case was opened against him on charges of attempted terrorism resulting in grave consequences, participation in a terrorist community, aiding terrorism, and illegal circulation and manufacture of explosives and explosive devices. According to the Russian investigation, the Ukrainian wanted to blow up the car of a pro-Russian head of Avtodor in the Zaporizhzhia region. According to law enforcement officers, from August to November 2022, Malyshev agreed to the offer of a Ukrainian intelligence officer to join a terrorist community. His role consisted of monitoring objects, transporting and storing explosive devices, as well as carrying out terrorist attacks. The organizers planned to kill the head of the road maintenance department. At the end of October - beginning of November 2022, Malyshev received explosive devices in Melitopol and stored them in an outbuilding. In April 2023, he studied a video instruction on their assembly, and from May 20 to June 13, 2023, he monitored the victim's car. On June 13, 2023, Malyshev installed a homemade explosive device under the bottom of the car, but on the same day the victim discovered it and reported it to law enforcement agencies. The man was sent into custody for the duration of the investigation. On December 26, 2025, the Southern Military Court found Artem Malyshev guilty and sentenced him to 27 years of imprisonment with a fine of 700 thousand rubles, the first 5 years of the sentence he must serve in prison, the remaining term - in a strict regime correctional colony.
