In Mariupol, in the occupied Donetsk region, no later than March 2022, Ukrainian citizens, servicemen of the Ukrainian National Guard, senior soldiers of military unit 3057 of the NG "Azov" regiment - 22-year-old Dmitry Ignatenko and 24-year-olds Vladislav Ruchka and Andrey Yaroshinsky - fell into captivity of Russian servicemen. Criminal cases were initiated against them on charges of cruel treatment of the civilian population, use of means and methods prohibited by an international treaty of the Russian Federation in an armed conflict, and murder committed by an organized group, in a generally dangerous manner, motivated by ideological and political hatred. According to the Russian investigation, in March 2022, Ruchka, Yaroshinsky, Ignatenko, as well as Andrey Barsky and Yuri Dmitriev (whose cases were separated into a separate proceeding), while carrying out an illegal order from their command, fired at least 200 mortar rounds at a grain storage facility where peaceful citizens were located. As a result of these actions, a man who was not participating in the armed conflict received fatal injuries. On April 16, 2025, the Supreme Court of the Donetsk People's Republic found the defendants guilty and sentenced Vladislav Ruchka to 24 years imprisonment, Andrey Yaroshinsky to 24 years, and Dmitry Ignatenko to 23 years and 9 months, to be served in a strict regime penal colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force. Earlier, the court sentenced Yuri Dmitriev in absentia to 24.5 years imprisonment and Andrey Barsky to 24 years in a strict regime penal colony. They were placed on the international wanted list.
