Case Description
1. In the city of Belovo, Kemerovo Oblast, at the end of October 2023, 36-year-old local resident Andrey Smirnov was detained. He was accused of state treason, spreading malicious computer programs, and laundering money obtained through criminal means. In the FSB press release, the detainee was called a "member of the Ukrainian 'cyber forces' who carried out attacks on Russia's critical infrastructure." According to the investigation, the man joined a cyber unit working for Ukrainian intelligence through a messenger. He allegedly helped carry out hacker attacks on Russian websites and services. During the investigation, the case defendant was placed in a remand prison. On July 2, 2025, the Kemerovo Regional Court found Andrey Smirnov guilty and sentenced him to 16 years of imprisonment to be served in a strict regime penal colony and a fine of 100 thousand rubles.
