Case Description
In November 2024, in the occupied part of Donetsk Oblast, 40-year-old Ukrainian citizen and soldier of the Aidar Battalion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Andriy Rybak, was taken prisoner by Russian military forces. He was accused of participating in a terrorist community. According to the investigation, on July 15, 2024, Rybak, out of mercenary motives and sharing the ideology of Ukrainian nationalism and Russophobia, voluntarily joined the Aidar Battalion. The next day, he was appointed as an assistant grenadier shooter and was issued uniforms, weapons, and ammunition. From July 15 to November 25, 2024, in the area of Druzhkivka city and the settlement of Ivanivske, he performed various tasks, including territory surveillance and holding positions. On August 19, 2024, he directly participated in combat operations against Russian servicemen. On February 13, 2025, the Leninsky District Court of Luhansk sent the defendant to a pre-trial detention center. On June 26, 2025, the Southern Military Court found Andriy Rybak guilty and sentenced him to 13 years of imprisonment. He must serve the first 3 years in prison, and the remainder in a strict regime correctional colony.
