Case Description
No later than May 2022, 22-year-old Ukrainian citizen, soldier of the Azov Regiment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Andrey Ostapchuk, was captured by Russian military personnel in occupied Mariupol, Donetsk Oblast." A criminal case was opened against him for participating in a terrorist community and undergoing training for the purpose of carrying out terrorist activities. The reason for the criminal prosecution was service in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine of the nationalist "Azov" battalion, recognized as a terrorist organization in Russia. On September 30, 2025, the Central District Military Court found Andrey Ostapchuk guilty and sentenced him to 17 years in a strict regime penal colony.
