Case Description
18 May 2022 in Mariupol, Donetsk Oblast, during the fighting for 'Azovstal', Ukrainian citizens, servicemen of the 'Azov' battalion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, 28-year-old Andriy Naiden and 19-year-old Danylo Kolynov, were taken prisoner by Russian military. They were accused of killing two civilians. According to the investigation, on 5 March 2022, Naiden and Kolynov were at a combat post in the basement of residential building No. 123 on Metallurgov Avenue in Mariupol. Around 16:00, they saw two unarmed men in civilian clothes. Assuming they might be scouts, the soldiers shot them with automatic weapons. Naiden fired at least 15 shots, Kolynov - at least 10. Both men died at the scene. On or before 23 March 2023, the Supreme Court of the Donetsk People's Republic found Andriy Naiden and Danylo Kolynov guilty and sentenced each to 25 years of imprisonment in a strict regime penal colony. There is no information about an appeal of the verdict.
