Case Description

In the Kursk region in October 2024, during hostilities, three Ukrainian citizens, military personnel of the 47th separate mechanized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, 44-year-old Vladimir Gorbatko, 42-year-old Yevgeny Kalashnik, and 41-year-old Andrey Milentyev, were taken prisoner by Russian military personnel. A criminal case was opened against him for committing a terrorist act by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, resulting in significant damage. According to the Russian investigation, in October 2024, Milentiev, Kalashnyk and Horbatko, armed with AK-74 and AK-74M assault rifles and grenades, illegally entered the territory of the Russian Federation. While in the Glushkovsky district of the Kursk region, the defendants of the case "under the threat of using weapons, occupied private houses, hindered the evacuation of civilians, repeatedly opened fire on Russian servicemen and local residents, and also participated in blocking and holding the settlement of Novy Put under illegal armed control." On July 1, 2025, the 2nd Western Military District Court found the defendants guilty and sentenced Andrey Milentyev to 15 years of imprisonment, with the first 3 years to be served in prison and the remainder in a strict regime correctional colony. The court sentenced Yevgenia Kalashnik and Vladimir Gorbatko to 16 years of imprisonment, with the first 4 years to be served in prison, and the remaining time in a strict regime correctional colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
