Case Description
In the city of Pioneer, Kaliningrad region, on December 26, 2023, security forces came to Andrey Lugovoy's house with a search. They confiscated his laptop, two phones, and routers, and sent him to the temporary detention facility for 48 hours. On December 28, Lugovoy was placed in a pre-trial detention center on charges of spreading 'fakes' about the army motivated by political hatred. According to the investigation, in April 2022, a man posted a publication in a channel he administered in a messenger containing knowingly false information related to the actions of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. On September 19, 2024, Judge Nadezhda Filonova of the Svetlogorsk City Court of the Kaliningrad Region found Andrey Lugovoy guilty and sentenced him to 6 years in a general regime colony. The court also deprived Lugovoy of the right to administer websites, chats, and channels on the Internet for 4 years. January 30, 2025, the Kaliningrad Regional Court upheld the sentence.
