Case Description
On August 31, 2023, Andrey Kurshin, the administrator of the Moscow Calling Telegram channel, was detained at the Leningradsky railway station in Moscow. He was accused of spreading "fakes" about the Russian army. The reason for the man's persecution was two posts published in his Telegram channel last fall. One of the posts was dedicated to a missile strike on a dam at a reservoir near Kryvyi Rih, and the second to the shelling of a maternity hospital in the Zaporizhzhia region. The next day, the Cheryomushkinsky District Court of Moscow granted the prosecution's motion and placed Kurshin under house arrest. On August 7, 2024, the Cheremushkinsky District Court of Moscow found Andrey Kurshin guilty and sentenced him to 6.5 years in a general regime penal colony. The court also deprived him of the right to engage in activities related to the administration of sites of electronic or information and telecommunications networks, including the Internet, for a period of 4 years. Kursina was taken into custody in the courtroom. February 10, 2025, the Moscow City Court upheld the sentence.
