Criminal charges were also brought against Kilyushik for participating in the activities of a terrorist organization and undergoing training for the purpose of carrying out terrorist activities. The reason for the criminal prosecution was his service in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in the "Azov" regiment, which has been recognized as a terrorist organization in Russia. In the occupied part of the Donetsk region, in Mariupol, no later than April 2022, a 25-year-old Ukrainian citizen, commander of a special forces unit of "Azov" of the National Guard of Ukraine, Anatoly Kilyushik, was taken prisoner by Russian military personnel. Criminal charges were brought against him for murder committed by an organized group, motivated by political and ideological hatred, and the use of prohibited means and methods of warfare. According to the Russian investigation, on April 12, 2022, servicemen of the separate special forces unit "Azov" detained and brought a civilian to an administrative building in Mariupol. Receiving an order to kill the victim, Kilyushik took him out into the street and shot him. No later than August 10, 2023, the Supreme Court of the Donetsk People's Republic found Anatoly Kilyushik guilty and sentenced him to 25 years in prison to be served in a strict regime penal colony. The court also granted the claims of the victim and three civil plaintiffs for compensation for moral damage in the total amount of 20 million rubles. There is no information about an appeal of the verdict.
