Case Description
In Melitopol, in the occupied part of the Zaporizhzhia region, on May 8, 2023, 31-year-old local resident and citizen of Ukraine Alexey Zyumkin was detained. Through a month, on June 7, 2023, 20-year-old Andrey Petrovich Gulya was detained, and on June 10, 2023 - his 47-year-old father, Andrey Andreyevich Gulya. They were accused of attempting on the life of a law enforcement officer. Gulya Jr. and Alexey Zyumkin were also accused of illegal possession of explosive devices, while Andrey Petrovich was accused of their illegal acquisition and possession. All crimes related to explosive devices were committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy. According to the investigation, at the beginning of 2023, Andrey Petrovich gave his son a grenade for safekeeping. In mid-April 2023, Gul Sr., while intoxicated and expressing dissatisfaction with Russian authorities, suggested to his son and his acquaintance Alexey Zyumkin that they place a grenade at the gate of the house of local police chief Roman Pshevichey. For this, he promised his son a "Moskvich" car, and Zyumkin - 200 thousand. rubles. At the end of April of the same year, Gul Sr. handed them a grenade and a detonator. Evening Zyumkin hid a grenade in an abandoned house nearby while Gul-junior kept an eye on the situation. At night, they installed an explosive device under the gates of a police officer's house. The next morning, an explosion occurred, as a result of which Pshechnychny sustained moderate bodily injuries, including a traumatic brain injury and concussion. All three were sent into custody during the investigation. On June 5, 2024, the Zaporizhzhia Regional Court found all three guilty and sentenced Andrey Andreyevich Gulya to 19 years in prison with a fine of 300 thousand. rubles and a restriction of freedom for 1.5 years. Andrey Petrovich Gulya - to 20 years of imprisonment with a fine of 300 thousand "rubles and restriction of freedom for 1.5 years, and Alexey Zyumkin - to 18 years of imprisonment with a fine of 300 thousand." rubles. All of them are to serve their sentences in a strict regime penal colony, with the first 2 years to be served in prison. On 12 September 2024, the Criminal Division of the First Appellate Court of General Jurisdiction changed the verdict in the case of Andrey Petrovich Guly, mitigating the punishment to 19 years and 6 months of imprisonment. In the rest of the verdict against him, as well as the verdicts against the other defendants in the case, she left it unchanged.
