Case Description
In the Kursk region, late in the evening of May 12, 2025, shooter Alexei Ninichuk of the 425th Separate Assault Regiment "Skala" crossed the state border as part of his unit. Several hours later, he was detained by Russian servicemen. A criminal case was opened against Ninichuk for committing a terrorist act as part of a group of persons by prior conspiracy, resulting in serious consequences. According to the Russian investigation, Ninichuk, armed with an AK-74 assault rifle with ammunition and three hand grenades, together with his fellow servicemen, illegally entered the Glukhovsky district of the Kursk region in a "Kazak" armored personnel carrier. Military personnel proceeded towards the settlement of Novy Put to block it and maintain armed control over it. Ninichuk, along with his comrades, held observation and fire positions, intimidated the civilian population, opposed Russian forces, and the next day surrendered to captivity. October 6, 2025, the 2nd Western Military District Court found Alexei Ninichuk guilty and sentenced him to 15 years in prison, with the first 4 years to be served in prison, and the remaining part of the sentence in a strict regime correctional colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
