Case Description
In Melitopol, in the occupied Zaporizhzhia region, Russian security forces detained a local resident, Ukrainian citizen Oleksandr Zhukov. He was accused of espionage. The exact date of detention is unknown. According to the Russian investigation, in the period from February to March 2022, Zhukov collected and transmitted to an employee of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine via an Internet messenger information about the locations of personnel of a unit of the Federal Service of the National Guard of the Russian Federation in the Zaporozhye region. No later than October 11, 2024, the Zaporizhzhia Regional Court found Alexander Zhukov guilty and sentenced him to 12 years in prison to be served in a strict regime correctional colony. There is no information about appealing the verdict.
