Case Description
In October 2024, in the Kursk region, during hostilities, 37-year-old Ukrainian citizen Alexander Yaskovich, a shooter in the 95th separate airborne assault brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, was taken prisoner by Russian military personnel. A criminal case was opened against him for committing a terrorist act by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, resulting in significant damage. According to the Russian investigation, on October 1, 2024, Yaskievich, along with other servicemen in a ZIL-131 vehicle, illegally invaded the territory of the Glukhovsky district of the Kursk region. They headed towards the village of Vesyoloye with the aim of blocking it. Yaskevich 'participated in equipping observation and fire positions to counter Russian military forces, destabilize government authorities, and intimidate the civilian population.'" 25 April 2025, the 2nd Western Military District Court found Alexander Yaskevich guilty and sentenced him to 15 years in prison, the first 3 years he must serve in prison, and the remaining part of the sentence - in a strict regime correctional colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
