Case Description
On April 7, 2024, in the city of Baltiysk, Kaliningrad Region, a fire broke out in the deckhouse of the Baltic Fleet's small missile ship Serpukhov. The damage from the fire was estimated at 56 million rubles, and it was also reported that one of the sailors was injured.
Alexander Terekhov, a 30-year-old serviceman, was accused of arson. He was accused of high treason, sabotage, desertion and illegal crossing of the state border.
According to the investigation, in April 2024, Terekhov, being dissenting from the special military operation, contacted the legion "Freedom of Russia" and the Ukrainian project "I want to live", after which, performing the task of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, committed arson of the cabin of a missile ship. After that Terekhov deserted, illegally crossed the border with Lithuania and went to the territory of Ukraine, after which he handed over military documents to the Ukrainian side.
On June 2, 2025, the Baltic Fleet Military Court found Alexander Terekhov guilty in absentia and sentenced him to life imprisonment with serving the first 10 years in prison and the rest in a special regime penal colony. He was also deprived of the military rank of "petty officer of the 2nd article".
The sentence was not appealed and came into legal force.
