В оккупированном Херсоне 14 ноября 2022 года похитили 21-летнего местного жителя, гражданина Украины Николая Щербину. Мать парня долго не знала, где его содержат. Впоследствии оккупационные власти подтвердили, что они задержали Николая вместе с его другом Шульгой Александром и отвезли в СИЗО в Симферополе, а затем в СИЗО-2 города Камышин Волгоградской области.
11 апреля 2026 года Николая Шульгу освободили в ходе очередного обмена военнопленными между Россией и Украиной.
