Case Description
In Bryansk Region, no later than December 2023, 40-year-old Ukrainian citizen Alexander Shulga, a native of Poltava Region, was detained while attempting to cross the Russian-Ukrainian border. He was charged with attempted participation in the activities of a terrorist organization, as well as attempted illegal crossing of the state border of the Russian Federation. According to the Russian investigation, in May-November 2023, the Ukrainian contacted the "Freedom of Russia" legion and planned to travel to Ukraine to participate in combat operations against the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. The man was placed in custody. On March 14, 2024, the 2nd Western District Military Court found Alexander Shulga guilty and sentenced him to 8 years of imprisonment with the first 2 years in prison and the remaining part of the sentence in a strict regime correctional colony. On July 30, 2024, the Appellate Military Court upheld the sentence without changes.
