Case Description
In the Kursk region in August 2024, criminal cases were initiated against four servicemen of the 61st Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Nikolai Tyazhkorob, Alexander Plaksivoy, Sergey Pogromsky, and Vladimir Odnoochko, on charges of committing a terrorist act by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, resulting in grave consequences. According to the Russian investigation, in early August 2024, Tyazhkorob, Plaksiviy, Pogromsky, and Odnoochko, as part of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, crossed the state border of the Russian Federation. In the city of Sudzha, Kursk region, servicemen allegedly intimidated and frightened the local population, disorganized the work of state authorities and local self-government, blocked cities, including mining areas of the terrain. In addition, threatening to use weapons, they occupied private houses, prohibited movement by civilians, and opened fire on both Russian military personnel and peaceful civilians. The court placed the servicemen in custody. 14 March 2025, the 2nd Western Military District Court found the defendants guilty and sentenced Vladimir Odnoochko, Sergei Pogromsky, and Nikolai Tyazhkorob to 16 years in prison, and Alexander Plaksivoy to 15 years in prison. They will all serve the first 3 years in prison, the rest of their sentence in a strict regime correctional colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
