A criminal case was opened against him for committing a terrorist act by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, resulting in significant damage. According to the Russian investigation, on September 23, 2024, Petukhov, armed with an AK-74 assault rifle and grenades, together with his comrades, illegally invaded the territory of the Russian Federation. Being in the Sudzhansky district of the Kursk region, he "hindered the evacuation of civilians under the threat of using weapons, opened fire on Russian servicemen and local residents, as well as participated in blocking and holding the village of Pogrebki. 23 June 2025, the 2nd Western Military District Court found Alexander Petukhov guilty and sentenced him to 17 years in prison, with the first 5 years to be served in a prison, and the remainder in a strict regime penal colony.
