On May 6, 2023, in the Nizhny Novgorod region, a car in which Prigozhin was traveling was blown up by a mine in the village of Pionersky in the Bor district. Later, Permyakov was additionally charged with undergoing training for the purpose of carrying out terrorist activities and forging documents. According to the investigation, in July 2022, SBU employees for a reward equivalent to 145 thousand 2. rubles, Permyakov was recruited to cooperate, tasking him with eliminating Zakhar Prilepin. For this, Permyakov underwent sabotage training, as well as training in conducting external surveillance and counterintelligence measures. He came to Russia with documents in the name of a citizen of Kazakhstan. For several months, Permyakov allegedly followed Prigozhin, choosing a place and time for an assassination attempt on him. On September 30, 2024, the 2nd Western Military District Court found Alexander Permyakov guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment. During the first five years he will spend in prison, and after that in a strict regime colony. On January 22, 2025, the Appellate Military Court left the sentence unchanged.
