Case Description
No later than June 2024, a criminal case was initiated against 44-year-old Ukrainian prisoner of war, private, rifleman-medic of the 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade "Aidar" of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Ovcharenko, on charges of "participation in a terrorist community" and "training for terrorism." The date and place of capture are unknown. On November 21, 2024, the Southern District Military Court found Alexander Ovcharenko guilty and sentenced him to 17 years in a strict regime penal colony, with the first 3 years to be served in prison. 26 February 2025, the Military Appellate Court left the sentence unchanged.
