Case Description
In Samara in May 2024, 49-year-old local resident Alexander Mirkulov was detained. He was accused of preparing for treason and preparing to participate in the activities of a terrorist organization. Mirkulova was detained at the Russian-Kazakh border. His ex-wife reported that he was beaten during his arrest and forced to plead guilty. According to the prosecution's version, Mirkulov, being an adherent of radical nationalist views, corresponded with a participant in a Ukrainian paramilitary organization recognized as a terrorist organization and expressed his willingness to join its ranks to participate in combat operations against the Russian Federation. He allegedly agreed on the procedure and date for crossing the State Border of the Russian Federation. On May 15, 2024, the Central Military District Court in Samara sentenced Alexander Mirkulov to 10 years in prison: he must spend the first 3 years in prison, and the remaining 7 years in a strict regime colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
